The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers is one of the oldest livery companies of the City of London ranked 20th in the City Livery Company order of precedence. As with many City Livery Companies today, the Wax Chandlers’ Company no longer operates primarily as a trade association. Its role has evolved into being a civic, ceremonial, educational and charitable institution. Like other livery companies, it takes an active role in supporting the corporate governance of the City of London and the Lord Mayor. The Company’s current ‘theme’ is sustainability, which it actively supports and promotes through, for example, a lecture series. The Company has maintained a Hall since 1501. The Wax Chandlers’ current premises, their sixth, were substantially rebuilt in 1954 after damage during World War II. The Company owns other property on Fleet Street in London.
The Company is looking for a committed individual with excellent administration, finance and organisational skills with a demonstrable track record of leadership, achievement and success in their chosen career. The Clerk has responsibility for the continuity, direction and day-to-day management of the Company and its charities.
You will have experience of organising events, be computer literate, tenacious, pragmatic and unflappable, and will have the personality to interact effectively with people at all levels.
The Company seeks an energetic and focused individual who is prepared to work irregular hours, including evenings. You will have good business acumen and be effective when engaging with the Court, Company, City institutions and the wider Livery world. Building sustainable relationships both inside and outside the Company will be central to success.
